So, now that I’ve had the pleasure of listening to most of my record store day releases, I’ll share my honest thoughts.  As an aside…i just realized the first several posts of my heavymetalwizard blog will not be about anything to do at all with metal.  Although i do love metal, i more broadly…love good music, regardless of what label it may come with…anyways…The Allman Brothers Band!  Though I am not an expert on Southern rock, although i do like many Southern rock bands… listening to the Allman Brothers play live makes me think of them as the Zeppelin of Southern rockers.  These guys are just a solid group of insanely talented musicians.  If you want to hear some of the best live guitarists out there, this is well worth a listen.  The tracklisting is as follows:

  • Statesboro Blues
  • End of the Line
  • Blue Sky
  • Midnight Rider
  • Hoochie Coochie Man
  • Dreams
  • Revival
  • In Memory of Elizabeth Reed
  • Jessica
  • Whipping Post

From the second the needle dropped I was certainly hooked.  The music is fluid, the jams and the chemistry between the instruments are really fantastic.  The pressing itself is of very good quality, I do make sure to clean any records before playing them, but I heard zero audio defects whatsoever, the mastering was good and the sound levels were very balanced to my ears.  I am not an “audiophile” but i am critical if a recording sounds junky due to the record quality itself.

Overall this is a great album to just sit back and melt into the couch with.  I can’t think of any fan of guitar/bass/drum based music that would not appreciate listening to this honestly.  I would rate the album 10/10 as a whole.  Also…I wouldn’t plan on getting many projects done the first listen to through, it really does suck you in and take your full attention! Very enjoyable and I will play this many more times in the future.

Happy Easter! 🙂

Record Store Day 2014!!!!

Wow my wife was kind enough to indulge my insanity and slept outside a local record store with me last night to make sure we got everything we wanted…(really we! because she actually wanted one of the albums very badly).  We came away cold, exhausted, but with almost everything we came for.  Interesting conversations all night long with two brothers who camped out right behind us.  The records included: Cake’s box set of every studio/bside/live album…!!!! FUCKING AMAZING, can’t wait to listen to this tonight back to back.  (Cake’s who my wife also loves)  Also picked up the Dave Matthews Band live album  which was amazingly good and was OLD! 1996 when i was younger and really into them…super sound.  An Allman Brothers live album which also sounded absolutely stunning, i’ll be running the grooves on that one until they are flat.  Jimmy Page and the Black Crowes live album which sounded fucking awesome.  And finally the set i’m listening to right as I type this…the LCD Soundsystem Farewell concert 5lp set….it s actually blowing me away right now!   I’ll put up a more in depth review and some pictures later after i’m finished with this audio bliss! 🙂
